How Many Google Reviews Does Your Business Actually Need?

By Charlie Wells, Founder

"How many" is the wrong first question

A business with 200 reviews from three years ago and nothing since reads very differently to a prospective customer than one with 40 reviews, half of them from the last two months. Recency and volume both matter, but recency is what most businesses neglect once they've cleared an initial hurdle.

The rough thresholds worth knowing

Somewhere around 10–20 reviews is usually enough for a rating to stop swinging wildly with every new review. Below that, one bad review can move your average by a noticeable amount. Beyond that early volume threshold, what matters more is whether reviews keep arriving regularly, not whether the total count keeps climbing.

What a healthy pace actually looks like

A steady handful of new reviews a month, indefinitely, does more for how current and trustworthy a profile looks than a one-off push to hit a round number. It also means a single new negative review has less relative weight against a profile that's visibly active, not a static number frozen from months ago.

Where to start

If your count has stalled or your most recent review is from months ago, that's usually a systemised-ask problem, not a customer-satisfaction one. Review Generation fixes exactly that gap by connecting to your existing customer list so the ask happens automatically, every week, instead of whenever someone remembers to send it.
